The french children's show "Grenadine et Mentalo" we just finished shown on Dailymotion, I worked on this as an animator and owe a lot to it! I learnt lots! especially about Toon Boom @.@

Took a step back from blogging for a while as i was getting frustrated by my drawings! But since my last post i have finished my job at Fabrique d' Image and moved home for a bit giving me a nice animation detox. This is just an image from a short film pitch i did for the studio before i left. It was a lot of fun to be a part of and the amount of pitches was very inspiring and i will miss the creative atmosphere.

Also put together a small portfolio, it's by no means complete but i hope will serve as a nice starting ground for development and improvement =)

As well as this i thought it was about time i put some animation up on my "animation-less" blog! So i put together a show reel, finally!

Ive been trying to develop some stuff based around these two characters for a while as a project to do in my spare time. Not really sure where im going with it yet (if anywhere) but its good practice and a nice break from toonboom =)
So i tried to take one of the poses from my sketchbook and develop it further on photoshop to test some colours and have a bash at painting something up. As always by the end im thinking this totally isnt what i wanted to get out of it...need to be more decisive about light and get a better understanding i think, but oh well! it was good practice and you only learn by doing!

So easter was lovely and relaxing, and seeing as i had one extra day for the weekend i decided to do something i never do and should do more often, and draw from some other artists for practice. So i filled a couple of pages of my sketch book trying to copy some Wendling poses, heres just a couple for now. The second one i attempted based on a pose in the book. Need to practice more >.<

So my cousin has a tortoise called terrance and sent me some fuzzy photos which inspired me to do some little sketches, its quite obvious that i need more practice and a real one in front of me to study, the shape, legs and head and shell..so all of it is so hard to get right from photo! ={

Nanjing Sketches

I was flicking though my old sketchbook and decided to do something with some of the ink sketches i did while i was in Nanjing. This is from a drawing day i spent in one of the temples, where i decided to take advantage of the rainy weather and get the inks and brushes out. I was kind of interested in the umbrellas more than the temple this day.....think it shows a little!! =)

I dont know if its just an english thing, but this song used to scared the frig out of me when i was little. This and the "teddy bears picnic".

I really dont know where these songs come from, but when your young you can take things too literal, and bananas in their pajamas coming down my stairs is just an image i will always remember.

Bit of a late post this one, went to the animation film festival in Annecy a couple of weeks ago and actually got about to do some sketching. Heres a couple of line drawings of the town center, incredibly hard to draw i struggle every year! Might put more up later on will see =].

Reading Week

I spent last week in Reading with a friend to take a break although ended up working for most of it =(!

However toward the end of the week managed to get a bike (that was massive) go for a ride and actually play some tennis! which i think we definately need more practice at....but was fun all the same =) Lots of geese and swans along the Thames with their fluffy babies so cuuute! and got a glimpse at a lovely hot air balloon over a sunset, so purty.

Did a quick painting of the balloon to keep the drawing up, will update with more later in the week.

And a very questionable new milkshake at shakeaways....

Yes so, we all packed up and ran home to Nanjing to meet a very very VERY fat little Nayi. And Matt (not so fat). It was great, on the trip home me and Gil filled up on mister donuts - Gillian ate 3. Me and Alex went and ate deliciously tastey hot pot (my favourite) while Gil and Matt went to a swarvy french restaurant to have their time together.

Saturday evening me Alex and Dumpling (a girl who works at the studio with us) hung out, took photos and played on arcade games, its SO much cheaper in Nanjing than in England. I was pretty much rubbish at everything. =D.

On Sunday we all went to eat this dish called "yopo mien" not sure if thats the right spelling, its like a special type of noodle, and lots of other things thrown in, i didnt like it at first but now ive warmed up to it =>

Following lunch Matt and Gillian went off to do their own thing for the day while me, Alex, Ono, Dumpling, Macy + boyfriend, and Wen played karaoke! @,@ it was quite lush! they have these massive KTV buildings with loooads of posh little karaoke rooms in side and lots of confusing corridors like a maze, it was quite impressive.

After karaoke went to see a park in Nanjing which was nice and relaxing, was a lovely sunny day so i enjoyed this lots => i miss open space and grass, there wasnt any grass here, but it was open and peaceful.

Old people dancing in the park, how sweet is this? i think in england maybe they would be trampled.

This is me and probably ono on ddr... notice the "oops" on the right side. Thats me missing every step. Sooo baaaaaaad. But funny. >.<

Shanghai Sunday!

Yesterday we all travelled into the center of shanghai to get away from work for a bit which was great, it turned out to be quite expensive (alex paid 55 yuan for a gross dinner), but funny nonetheless. I wanted to take lots of photos but i left my sd card in my laptop at home because im a numpty.

But ive stolen a few of gils...mwaha..

and pretty Shanghai river at night, was really gorgeous i want to go back.

And also i said id put some work up so in no particular order ive just picked a couple of things that ive done since being in China, lots of fish work...

Okay forcing myself to make a post, because ive been really lazy... been in Shanghai for 5 days now, its not that bad, its actually quite amusing complaining about it. We should be going into the center on sunday so im looking forward to that, lots of photos woot! Im being bugged to put more drawings up...but i dont know which ones to choose! So for now ill just put up this cartoon i did for a friend...i need more practice.

This monday will be packing up and moving to Shanghai for a month and a half (eeep), its a little exciting, in a unexpected throw you up in the air kind of way. So now treasuring the sunny last few days we have in Nanjing, although tomorrow is thunder..boooo. We should be going to the zoo on sunday which im looking forward to, im very interested to see what the Nanjing zoo looks like, will be a photorific day...

And tomorrow i will get my work off the server, so i might put some up if im brave enough.
Ooh and one other note, Seiji Lim took a photo of this restaurant in Portugal that reminding him of me, not sure why o.O......

Okay so this is my first post since moving to China for 6 months...and im nearing month 4, so yeah let it slip a bit, moved from Weebly to blogger....not sure why, boredem? Havent got my work sorted yet to put up so im just going to show what ive been up to the last weekend for anyone who has been following. Most likely you would have read all about the last 4 months from Gillian Reid's http://nanjingadventures.blogspot.com/.

Although this wont be on there, last sunday i went to the lake in Nanjing and came across a woman selling chicks in a box...one of the cutest things i have ever seen!!! and i got to hold one!! so happy, ive always wanted to pick one up and now i have, so lucky.

Will figure out what i want to use this page for in a bit...not sure if it should be for general ramblings or scribbles, i think maybe both =>
